Charlie, Mike, Jonny and Chris cruised up to the River
Nene in Peterborough for the annual kayak slalom winter series.
The recent rains made it a challenging course for all the competitors whose
ability ranged from beginners to world class paddlers. Mike's interesting interpretations
of the course raised eyebrows in the crowd who offered raucous cheers as he
sped across the finish line after 1 ½ rolls with a drained body. This momentous
effort was enough to reach 1st place in J16 Div 4.
Charlie gave a strong, competitive performance, gaining first place in J18 Div
4 as he squirted, slid and squeezed though most of the gates.
In a freshly broken and Gaffer-taped boat which had been attacked by other paddlers,
seemingly appearing out of nowhere, Jonny was alright as well sneaking in at
2nd place in Div 3.
Chris' Snickers bars were well received as the chill in
the air sapped our energy whilst watching the exiting events of the Div "goods"
whizzing round effortlessly.
Thanks go to chauffeur, mentor, snack supplier
Chris and Proteus Club for some delightfully Christmassy mugs and yummy cake
for the journey home.
